Geography panel sacked over 'missing' Arunachal in Class X textbooks

Unsatisfied by the replies of the geography panel to the show cause notices issued, the Maharashtra State Board for Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has issued termination letters to all 10 members on the panel. According to procedure, a show cause notice is issued at first and if found guilty, the board can dissolve the panel, as per an Indian Express report. AFP[/caption] The show cause notice was issued after it was found that the north-eastern State of Arunachal Pradesh was ‘missing’ from the Indian map in the Class X geography textbooks. A Mumbai Mirror report says that the show cause notice asked the members to explain as to why no action should be taken against them. The panel was given 24 hours to reply after chief minister Prithviraj Chavan termed it an ‘unpardonable mistake’. The MSBSHSE has also summoned the board of studies for history to give an explanation as to why the Andaman & Nicobar islands were not marked in the Indian map of the history textbooks. For the current edition, the Board may either swap the books with the corrected editions or ask the schools to instruct the students to correct the mistake in their textbooks.
