Despite fund shortage, Maha govt to spend Rs 1.40 cr on bullet-proof vehicles for CM, governor

The Maharashtra government is planning to spend a whopping Rs 1.40 crore on purchasing two bullet-proof vehicles for Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao, despite the state being cash-strapped, reports Times of India. IBNLive[/caption] The vehicle is supposed to be used during the duo’s visits to the capital and the amount was revealed earlier this month at the state assembly during the supplementary statement of expenditure by the government. While many are questioning the steep expense that will be incurred, the Opposition is demanding that the Centre pay for the vehicles instead of the Maharashtra government. According to Congress leader, Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil spending that much money on those cars will be a waste as they would hardly be used. Defending the decision, an official within the Maharashtra government told TOI that Rs 1.40 crore is a standard amount for bullet-proof cars.
