Former US secretary of state and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton today took to Facebook to offer words of encouragement to a teenager who is apprehensive about his future for being gay. Clinton’s reaction came after photographer Brandon Stanton, who runs a photo project Humans of New York to show the emotions of New Yorkers in their rawest form. In this photo, which caught the attention of the former First Lady, the young boy is shown in a pensive mood and almost in tears.[caption id=“attachment_2327334” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Image from Humans of New York Facebook account[/caption] “I’m a homosexual and I’m afraid about what my future will be and that people won’t like me,” Stanton quotes the young New Yorker captured in his photograph as saying, The Guardian reported. So honest was the boy’s admission about his sexuality that an hour after his photo was posted on the Internet, Clinton’s official campaign account had these words for the teenager: “Prediction from a grown-up: Your future is going to be amazing. You will surprise yourself with what you’re capable of and the incredible things you go on to do. Find the people who love and believe in you – there will be lots of them.” The trademark “H” confirms that she herself authored the post on Facebook. Clinton’s deputy communications director for her America campaign, also shared the comment on Twitter: https://twitter.com/kristina_schake/status/617052585955078144 Not only Clinton, the young teenager’s feelings touched many across the globe which was visible from the sheer number of likes and shares the post got on Facebook. As this piece was being written, an incredible 479,892 people liked it and it had a whopping 40,189 shares. On 26 June, the US Supreme Court had declared that same-sex couples have a right to marry anywhere in the country. Welcoming the ruling, Clinton wrote in a piece, “Along with millions of Americans, I am celebrating today’s landmark victory for marriage equality, and the generations of advocates and activists who fought to make it possible. From Stonewall to the Supreme Court, the courage and determination of the LGBT community has changed hearts and changed laws.” The decision was also welcomed by US President Barack Obama. https://twitter.com/BarackObama/status/614452798474719233 https://twitter.com/BarackObama/status/614453110140854272
