All LOTR fans must know that New Zealand is the only place that is truly Middle-earth, given that all the three films of LOTR and the Hobbit trilogy have been shot there. So it’s not surprising that New Zealand’s official airline, Air New Zealand is capitalising on that.
This year they’ve released what they call as the ‘The Most Epic Safety Video Ever Made.’ And it’s all themed around Middle-Earth. In short, it will make all other in-flight safety videos and enactments seem even more boring now.
The Hobbit-themed video is not the first one by the airline, which had launched another version back in 2012. They did another in 2013 as well and now ahead of the third Hobbit film which is titled The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, the third and final video is out.
Oh and to make this video even more epic the video has Frodo aka Elijah Wood, the director for LOTR and The Hobbit triology Sir Peter Jackson as well as Sylvester McCoy (who played the wizard Radagast in The Hobbit series), Dean O’Gorman (who was the dwarf Fili in the series).
Other appearances include Weta Workshop’s Richard Taylor, Japanese baseball player Naoyuki Shimizu, and New Zealand film director Taika Waititi who has also directed the film.
Air New Zealand had already re-branded itself as the official airline of Middle-Earth, which makes sense, given the connection that the entire series has with the country. In this particular video, we see all the flight attendants appear dressed as elves as they read out various safety instructions and you can see that the video has been shot with the Middle-Earth set in the background.
The latest safety video however is much more elaborate than the previous versions with one of the Great Eagles also making an appearance. Personally we love the life jacket bit where one of the passenger aka Hobbit fan bungee jumps with the life jacket to get back the ring. But, don’t you ever try that!
