It was in July last year that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation — under whose purview the Byculla Zoo falls — announced the arrival of eight Humboldt Penguins from South Korea, evoking much controversy. The authorities had planned to put the flightless birds on display in November, but this was scuppered by the death of one of the penguins in October, evoking even more controversy . On Friday, little Donald, Daisy, Olive, Popeye, Bubble, Flipper and Mr Molt will finally get to meet the public as they go display in a special enclosure built in the zoo. A handy tip if you want to catch them on the cheap: Go before 31 March, because the entry fee will be Rs 5. As of 1 April, the zoo is likely to charge an additional fee for access to the penguin enclosure.
