“Mera naam Reshma Bano hai. Main 18 saal ki hoon. Aaj main Katrina Kaif se zyaada sundar dikhne wali hoon”
(My name is Reshma Bano. I’m 18 years old. Today I’m going to look prettier than Katrina Kaif)
This line might seem like a run-of-the-mill dialogue from a typical 18-year old obsessed with wanting to look good and emulate her favourite celebrity.
But, not when the girl in question is an acid attack survivor.
Beauty channel Blush got together with Make love Not Scars , (a website dedicated to acid attack survivors which showcases their talents and stories through weekly blogs) to give acid attack survivor Reshma Banoo Quereshi the makeover she wants.
The video starts off with Reshma recounting the horrific incident that changed her life a year back when she had gone to Allahabad (where her sister stays with her in-laws) to appear for an examination.
Just when they were walking, her brother-in-law along with some of his friends pinned her to the ground and poured concentrated suphuric acid on her face, causing severe burns.
As a result of the incident, Reshma lost her left eye and her right eye is infected and partially closed. Her face is severely disfigured as well.
However, Reshmaa hasn’t let that incident define her life. The video which is titled ‘The Brave Beauty’ also gives an insight into Reshma’s life, showing us that she is like any other 18-year-old with dreams and aspirations. Her ultimate goal is to work at an NGO and help traumatised victims.
Every girl needs a makeover, once in a while. And, in this video Reshma Banoo Quereshi gets the makeover she really deserves.
