While it is that time of the year when Hindus across the country prepare to worship the Indian goddesses and await nine nights of festivities with Navratri, here is something interesting to sign up for ahead of the holy days.
Agents of Ishq
, who aim at promoting positive conversations about love, sex and desire in India through multimedia projects caught our attention with their latest ‘Reclaim Menstruation, Say Boo to Taboo!’ campaign.
‘Postcards from My Periods’ is their latest project through which they aim to bring forth stories of young girls and their first experience with menstruation. The group has been encouraging people to sign up for their video post cards, which people will then receive on each of the days of Navratri. While many still find it embarrassing to discuss their menstrual cycles and associate taboos with it, looks like Agents of Ishq is aiming to bring about a change with their video postcard project. The series of stories that individuals will receive during the nine days of Navratri are said to help people remember their first period, understand the phenomenon that the body undergoes and reclaim the positive, life-affirming idea of menstruation. So this Navratri, while we dance through the night and indulge in all those sweets and goodies, these video postcards narrated by young girls might just be a more powerful and noteworthy gift to have and pass around.
Agents of Ishq
, have collaborated with Vacha Mumbai to bring forth this project. We hope that with this campaign they fulfill their aim of abolishing stigma, and we celebrate this Navratri as a festival of fertility and nature’s ability to give life.
