In an incident, which seems to be straight out of an Indian version of Breaking Bad, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of a multi-national company in Chennai was caught by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officials for possession of cocaine worth Rs 20,000.
In fact, the CEO, 50-year-old Sanjiv Bhatnagar, had been ordering the cocaine through a website and getting them from a Bengaluru-based supplier for the past one year, according to The Times of India.
The report added that Bhatnagar is the head of Jouve India Pvt Ltd and was arrested when he was taking delivery of the drug at SMPK Cargo and Courier Services on Wall Tax Road in Chennai at around 3 pm on Wednesday.
“We already had a tip-off that the accused had been regularly receiving the drug from his supplier via courier service. So, our team was waiting at the courier office. As soon as he entered the office and received the parcel, he was arrested. Tests on the substance kept hidden in the parcel confirmed it was cocaine,” The New Indian Express quoted Prem Anand Sinha, Director of the South Zone of the NCB, as saying.
Bhatnagar was caught with a parcel containing 3.88 grams of cocaine, estimated to be worth around Rs 20,000 in the local black market, the Express report further added.
In a more disturbing revelation, the TOI report added that some drug traffickers were setting up bases in Tamil Nadu by joining educational institutions and getting involved in activities like sports, making children and the youth vulnerable to drug abuse.
