In school, people often asked, what do you want to become when you grow up? One out of three in class would reply, I want to become a pilot. Wing Commander Kapil Advait would have been one of those. Commissioned during the 1962 Indo-China war, which was known as the Sino-Indian war, Kapil Advait flew the MiG aircraft over the North-East of India. The region was then known as NEFA (North Eastern Frontier Tracts).
A class 'Green Pilot', he had the fighter pilot mid air when the aircraft lost control. An experienced pilot, Wg. Cdr. Kapil, was commissioned to duty in the year 1957 and followed protocol upon sounding the SOS call.
Contact with base was severed and he had lost all hope. This is the point in life, that Pilot Kapil Advait declares as his moment of truth. He gave up being a public servant and turned his life to devotion.
We met him in the Simhast Kumbh Mahaparv in Ujjain this year, surrounded by devotees from all across the globe. The surprise element here was that the information he gave us checked out, but the story of a certain divine intervention that happened mid-air remained eerie.
Watch the next epsiode of #ColoursOfKumbh which proves how devotion in itself defies all forms of science. The example of Pilot Baba and the story of his life are an example of faith that humanity rests in the forces of nature.
You can read more about the baba and his life on his website - www.pilotbaba.org
