![optimized](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/optimized4.jpg) Travel is one of the most commonly listed interests. Time spent in travelling during long vacations has been proven to improve productivity at work and health to a large extent. And if you are a resident of the IT capital of India, Bangalore, that was once popular for its greenery, you definitely deserve a retreat to de-stress yourself from the bustling city life. In order to come out of the monotony of life, you must plan a leisure trip outside the city on a regular basis. Time spent outside your busy schedules helps to bring back the zeal in life and relax your mind and soul completely. Although, there are many places in and around Bangalore that entice a large number of travellers, a small island near Karwar, Karnataka, stands apart. Known as Devbagh Island, the place leaves you mesmerized with its beauty and calmness. It also has one of the finest beaches with white sand and serenity all around that will surely take you to a state of tranquillity. Reaching the Island Reaching the island is easy, as it is accessible from both Karnataka and Goa. The island has only one resort and the staff there takes the entire responsibility of your trip and so you are in safe hands. If you are travelling from Goa by road, then you can reach the resort’s office in nearly two hours’ time. After you are done with check-in formalities, a guide will take you to the pier to board a motorboat on which you cross the Kali River. The River is named Kali because the originating place of the river has black stones for nearly 6 kilometres and the water looks completely black in that area. After a 15-minute drive on a motorboat, you step onto the beautiful island. From Bangalore, you can directly reach the destination by road. The journey is beautiful as it is green on either side of the road. But don’t forget to carry your  car insurance papers along, as it is a long journey and along the cragged terrains of western ghats. It takes around nine hours by road from Bangalore to Karwar, which is quite possible to cover within a day. If you prefer to prepare your own itinerary and like to drive on your own, you should definitely travel in your own car. If you don’t have one, buy a car that suits driving on highways. You should spend some time to choose your preferable car and  apply for a car loan. You will surely rejoice the journey thoroughly.   An Alluring Beach Retreat Once you reach the resort’s office in Karwar, they will guide you to the island. All the staff are friendly and offer a cordial welcome on your arrival. As you step onto the island, the fresh and moist air surrounding the island becomes quite palpable. The walk along the woods is refreshing. A five-minute walk along a dense casuarina grove takes you to the Devbagh Beach Resort. The resort is owned by Karnataka government and operated by The Jungle Lodges and Resorts. The resort has close to 17 huts and a gazebo named ‘Gol-Ghar’, where breakfast and lavish lunch buffets are served to the guests. Sprawling over 90 acres of land, it is one among five beautiful islands along the coastline of Kawar.  The serene island is cut off from the mainland. The resort provides two options for the visiting guests:  You can either plan for a day-long outing on the island or book a whole day package with a night stay. The day-long picnic on the island allows you to explore dolphins, and enjoy breakfast, lavish lunch and evening snacks. The lunch includes freshly caught fish, presenting a sumptuous treat for non-vegetarians. For vegetarians, the lunch buffet presents a wide range of choices. And while you are still at your lunch, you can spot beautiful peacocks passing by. Other activities like water sports, spa, lounging, etc., make your day trip to the Devbagh Island a memorable experience. But if you plan a night stay on the island, you have a long list of activities to enjoy during your stay, which includes morning walk in the woods, beachside buffet dinner and bonfire. You can spend the entire day on the serene beach, which is mostly sparse with a handful of visitors most of the time. Service personals at the resort try their best to provide you with a relaxing and comfortable stay. They serve snacks and dinner on the beach with a candlelight dinner and bonfire. For the travellers visiting the resort with family, an evening spent on the beach makes for a memorable experience and time well-spent with each other.  For early risers, there’s another retreat. You can walk along the beach and visit the fisherman’s hamlet located nearby. In order to keep children engaged, the resort has put up a trampoline, different types of balancers, swings, and hammocks in front of every hut. For bird lovers, the guide at the resort organizes a morning trail around the mangroves and takes the visitors inside the jungle. You can spot beautiful peacocks, varieties of doves, kingfisher, sandpipers, gulls, white-eyed eagle and so many other varieties of birds. In fact, you also get a chance to collect the feathers on the moist and dew-filled pathways. The boat ride will help you spot many dolphins at the intersection of Kali River and the sea. While most of them are black, pink dolphins can also be spotted. As you venture out to explore in and around the island, remember that safety is important. Don’t forget to carry your  health insurance as it will be useful in case of an untoward situation.  Activities to do on the Island The island is known for its teeming wildlife and birds.  Beyond this, there are a lot of water activities to enjoy in Devbagh Island. Paragliding will give you a mesmerizing view of the surroundings as you glide over the ocean and can see the entire Karwar city. Adventure activities at Devbagh truly fulfil the promise of an unforgettable vacation. If you are an adventure freak, you can also plan a visit to Kali Adventure Camp, Dandeli, where you can experience white water rafting, canoeing, mountain biking and other adventure activities. The oldest shrine—Mahabaleshwara Temple— can also be included in your itinerary, if you have enough time. Though cash is required on these short trips, carrying a credit card as a backup is a wise choice as you never know when it may come in handy. It also reduces the trouble and risk of carrying excess cash. Devbagh Island is a retreat that fits well with your vacation plan aimed at relaxation, enjoyment and adventure. You will surely love to visit the island again, to spend time out of the hustle and bustle of Bangalore and de-clutter your mind to explore new perspectives on life. This is a Partnered Post.
