It's official. Former editor-in-chief of The Indian Express Shekhar Gupta has joined the India Today Group as vice chairman and editor-in-chief of all its editorial properties.
This will be Gupta's second stint at the Aroon Purie-led group. He had earlier served at the group for 12 years.
Gupta, in association with Purie, will launch a series of new editorial products that will showcase “the finest in investigative reporting and interpretative commentary”, a media release said.
"It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to return to the India Today Group to work with Aroon and his fine teams and nurture the most trusted news brands. ITG, with its commitment to excellence and credibility, is best placed to meet the biggest challenge in our business today: to earn the trust and respect of our readers and viewers," the former Indian Express editor said in a statement.
Gupta, who has over 33 years of experience in journalism, will report to Purie and also work closely with Group CEO Ashish Bagga.
Meanwhile, Raj Kamal Jha will take over as Editor-in-Chief at The Indian Express, chairman Viveck Goenka announced, adding that Unni Rajen Shanker will take Jha’s place as editor.
In an email to his employees, Goenka said: "With much regret, I accept Shekhar Gupta’s resignation as editor-in-chief of The Indian Express. I truly appreciate his letter to all of us and I wish him the very best... We have witnessed a remarkable election and an even more remarkable victory that bring with it challenges for all of us in the news business whose mission is to question, to report, to interpret and to analyse."
