Remember the most recent video on Youtube that went viral? Journalist Marina Shifrin quit her job at a media company by well, dancing around her office to a Kanye West song. The video has garnered over ten million views. And now, Marina’s old boss - and work team - has replied in kind. The team at Next Media Animation, a Taiwanese company, decided to do a satire of Marina’s dance moves. They used the same song and the same office to make a totally different point - they’re hiring. Though she makes the point of how she works at a “great” company early on, she also discloses that she’s at work at 4am and that the company cared more about clicks than content. It must be said that the video ends up making Next Media Animation seem like some kind of heartless, corporate behemoth. Besides the video, Marina’s ex-boss also submitted a letter to the Gawker website, in which he wrote: “Look, I actually like Marina a great deal. Marina herself has said we are a great company to work for, and I do not think she intended to hurt anyone, but it has happened… There is an image now of a sweat shop, we are not. Marina made USD$42k per year. She had a 40 hr work week, 5 days a week…I don’t think she meant for it to be seen as so harsh, but we are getting some nasty attacks on our managers, who she says she respects.” Read his full letter here.
