When your customer finds a fly in their food at a prestigious South Mumbai club, the president is expected to express concern and look into the member’s grievance. But that’s not what happened at the National Sports Club of India (NSCI). [caption id=“attachment_2387524” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]  Image from Facebook Tina Ajinkya[/caption] Instead the institution decided to file a defamation case against one of its elected representatives, after she posted a photograph on Facebook of a fly found in the soup served by one of the club’s restaurants. Tina Ajinkya, a member of the NSCI central council, posted pictures on Facebook after she allegedly failed to get the president’s help to look into the matter. She says on Facebook that she was called upon by a member after his daughter vomited on finding a dead fly in a soup, half of which she had consumed. However, when she approached the president of the club and informed him of the issue he responded saying, ‘What can I do about this? Why you telling me all this?’ Following this exchange, she decided to publish the pictures and document the incident online. On 30 July, Ajinkya received one notice of suspension from the NSCI’s central council, and one for defamation. “I am going to fight this till the end. I have done nothing wrong. This is a case of vendetta politics. I am extremely popular in our club. Despite being an opposition member, I tried to address the issue. The ruling group tries to muzzle our voices and run a dictatorship. Earlier too there have been innumerable complaints regarding hygiene in the club.
