Among all the tweets throughout the year, the ‘Golden Tweet’ this year was the Oscar selfie, the picture shared by Oscars host Ellen DeGeneres, which became the most retweeted photograph this year. The selfie shows Hollywood stars including Jennifer Lawrence, Channing Tatum, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, DeGeneres, Kevin Spacey, Bradley Cooper, Brad Pitt, Lupita Nyong’o and her brother and Angelina Jolie (with her face half obscured). Host DeGeneres tweeted the picture from her account and captioned it: “If only Bradley’s arm was longer. Best photo ever. #oscars”. From Ellen’s Tweet to space travel and triumphant World Cup moments, if it happened in the world, it happened on Twitter.” Here are some of the moments that made to the list: World Cup: According to Twitter, it was the biggest sporting event of the year. At its peak, there were 618,725 Tweets sent per minute. #BlackLivesMatter: There were more than 18 million tweets about the #Ferguson protests in August. Also tied to a similar grand jury decision in New York, Twitter charted out a map to show how powerfully the hashtags #ICantBreathe and #BlackLivesMatter shaped the conversation on Twitter. #MarsOrbiter: Photos from space captivated social media this year. As India entered the history books with the insertion of its maiden Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), it also became one of the most tweeted events.

Nasa’s 2012 Mars mission Curiosity, Isro’s Mars Orbiter and Nasa’s 2014 Mars mission Maven that entered the Mars orbit September 21, exchanged fun tweets. “The #MAVEN team congratulates @Isro for its #Mars arrival! @MarsOrbiter joins the missions studying the Red Planet,” read the tweet from Nasa’s Mars Mission twitter handle @MAVEN2Mars. #IndiaVotes: This was one of the most trending hashtags when India voted during the Lok Sabha Elections. Narendra Modi’s tweet when he won the election was one of the most retweeted tweets. It was retweeted 71,000  times

The site also showcases the year from the perspective of some of the most notable celebrity Twitter users this year and put out a list of their favourite moments–their tweets that were retweeted most. Among the Indians, the celebrity list includes Amitabh Bacchan and Sachin Tendulkar. Others on the list were Lady Gaga, J.K. Rowling, Neymar Jr., Robert Downey Jr., Aaron Paul, Henry Winter, Gary Lineker, Glenda Kozlowksi, Eduardo Jorge, Tim Howard, Jared Leto, The Duke of York, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Claudia Leitte.
