Wendi Deng has in the space of a few hours become a verb, the object of global admiration and quite possibly the public relations fillip her husband and step son needed in the wake of the whole #hackgate scandal. Deng’s lightning quick reflexes and impressive right hook as she (literally) leaped out at a man who tried to attack her husband with a foam pie during his parliamentary hearing yesterday, has inspired the romantic phrase, “ I would Wendi Deng for you”. Jonnie Marbles was led away by police, the online community went berserk. Wendi Deng was a star. News media began telling a suddenly information hungry and interested public who Wendi Deng really is. And there were the usual rush of hilarious articles like this one from Gawker and this from The Telgraph. Stand by your man? Oh yes. And because it’s just SO cool, here is the video:
Wendi Deng’s passionate aggressive defence of her husband against a British pie throwing activist has made her a verb, a meme and the object of collective online admiration.
