Reliance Foundation Chairperson Nita Ambani brought sculpted a moment of pure splendor as at President Donald Trump’s private reception ahead of his swearing-in ceremony. She brought to the Washington DC venue a slice of India’s rich cultural heritage.
Draped in an exquisitely crafted Kanchipuram silk saree, custom-made by National Award-winning artisan B. Krishnamoorthy, Nita embodied the elegance and unmatched artistry of Indian tradition.
The saree wasn’t just an outfit; it was a story — woven with over 100 traditional motifs inspired by the grand temples of Kanchipuram.
From the Iruthalaipakshi, a double-headed eagle symbolising Lord Vishnu, to the Mayil, representing immortality and divinity, each motif carried centuries of history and meaning.
The mythical Sorgavasal animal trails added an ethereal charm, creating a tapestry that celebrated India’s folklore. The saree’s stunning gold and jewel tones were offset by a contemporary velvet blouse designed by Manish Malhotra.
No ensemble is complete without the perfect accessories, and Nita’s choice was nothing short of extraordinary.
A 200-year-old parrot-shaped pendant, encrusted with emeralds, rubies, diamonds, and pearls, elevated the look to celestial heights. Crafted in southern India using the traditional gold Kundan technique and accentuated with red and green enamel, the pendant was a dazzling nod to India’s enduring legacy of fine jewellery.
With this look, Nita Ambani didn’t just make a fashion statement — she honoured the artisans who continue to breathe life into these ancient traditions.
The Ambanis were also seen sharing warm moments with the president-elect, Donald Trump, as they congratulated him on his historic win. They expressed hope for deeper ties between India and the U.S., underscoring the immense potential for collaboration during his transformative leadership.
At Trump’s inauguration ceremony on January 20, Nita and Mukesh Ambani were seated among an elite roster of attendees, sharing the platform with Trump’s Cabinet nominees and elected officials. As always, the power couple effortlessly fused elegance with influence, marking yet another iconic moment on the world stage.
