Mark Zuckerberg's sister writes book about the perils of the internet

Mark Zuckerberg’s sister, Randi Zuckerberg, is a businesswoman in her own right. She is the former marketing director of Facebook, and will soon be a published author, having written a children’s book. But it’s the topic of her book which has sparked interest online - the sister of the man whose ambition is to see everyone in the world connected online has written a book detailing the hazards of wasting too much time on the internet. Dot is a “tech-savvy” little girl, she writes. “I was inspired to write Dot after talking with parents around the world. I found that although technology is making our lives easier and helping keep us connected, many parents are worried about how to raise their children in this new digital era,” says Zuckerberg. She continues: “Dot loves technology. A LOT. She’s obsessed with her devices (sound familiar?), but with a little push, she’s reminded that life’s a little bit richer when you look up from the screen. As I watch my two-year-old begin to discover technology, I feel certain that this is an important message to share with a younger audience.” To _New York’_s Kevin Roose, Randi Zuckerberg says that writing a book about the perils of being online all the time is a little like “ Mario Batali’s sister writing a low-carb cookbook.” It’s a good analogy for the kind of contrast between the life philosophies of the two siblings that are being made evident through this children’s book. Dot will hit the bookstores on 5 November. Randi Zuckerberg is also coming out with a second book about online culture and etiquette aimed at adults. That one’s called  Dot Complicated.
