Google autocomplete map: Most searched for term on India is why its so 'poor'

Google’s autocomplete suggestions, which are based on previous searches by Google users or other places on the web, can often be funny as well as examples of shining racism and stereotypes. So what does autocomplete search look like across the world? A Reddit User system637 has put together a map of what autocomplete looks like in Asia. For India and surrounding nations, the autocomplete map reads so poor. Which means that the most searched for query on Google, is “Why is India so poor?” Yup. So flattering. But India is not alone. All of our neighbours have the same question asked of them - all ‘poor’ -  except for Bhutan, where the biggest question is why they are “so happy”.  Not surprising given that being the world’s happiest nation is what the country is best known for. For some reason the question about Sri Lanka is ‘why is it so famous’. Beaches maybe?  Across Pakistan it reads important, which makes sense given one of the options you might see on autocomplete is this: “Why is Pakistan so important to the United States.” The important label is also applied to pretty much all the Middle-Eastern countries, except Iran which obviously has the word threat written across it. Dubai has the label “so rich” written on it, probably since the image everyone has of the city with its shopping malls and rich sheikhs. China’s pollution is definitely a Google search buzzword, since that it was appears to be the top of the autocomplete terms. So much for India and China’s super-power dreams. Malaysia’s label “reads truly Asia” given that was the buzzword for Malaysian Airlines and pretty much everyone had seen their/heard their catchy ad. With Koreas, the label reads so poor for the North, while it reads so Rich for the South. Again not surprising given how poorly the North Korean economy has done under the Kim Jong family.
