What is it about population control ads that make them so cringeworthy? Whether it is about asking people to have less babies, or even make more babies, there is just something about these campaigns that make you not want to have anything to do with the process at all. Take Singapore which is practically pleading with its citizens to get on with it and just make babies already. [caption id=“attachment_410051” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Reuters[/caption] A report in the Globe and Mail said that an ad campaign, sponsored by Mentos, is promoting a “National Night” of sex – a campaign to encourage citizens to make babies". According to the report,

the campaign features “inventive euphemisms like ”Let’s make a lil’ human that looks like you and me, explorin’ your body like a night safari”, interspersed with terrible pickup lines (“Girl you’re so hot I wanna to turn on the A/C”).

Groan. How about on the other side of the divide? After all Singapore with its population of just over 4 million (Thats less people than live in Delhi… and Mumbai… oh and Bangalore) probably aren’t used to this sort of thing. Population never really being well… their headache. So lets move across to more familiar territory and recap India’s ads on birth control. Animated, informative… but good lord no.
