The Viral Video (TVF), which is known for putting out some fun comedy videos on YouTube, has put out a new one called Never #LikeanIndianMan. The video is inspired by the now famous #LikeaGirl video and highlights the worst of Indian men when dealing with women.
To give you some background, the #LikeAGirl video was basically about highlighting how the phrase ‘Like a girl’ has come to mean an insult.
From ‘you run like a girl’ to ‘you throw like a girl’, the phrases have become a way to humiliate women. The video shows how young girls, the ones who haven’t hit puberty are unable to see why ‘Like a girl’ should mean anything different, although one of them knows that the phrase is meant to humiliate. The video shows how post puberty a girl’s self-confidence takes a nosedive because of such phrases which stereotypes girls as weak.
In case of TVF, they’ve taken this video to showcase how Indian men think they approach women, using the hashtag #LikeanIndianMan. The video shows how Indian women point out the truth of Indian men actually approach women.
When the men are asked how they approach women, they start by appearing not so creepy, even sweet and then quickly degenerate into corny and creepy.
It starts with, “May I please buy you a drink,” in a non-creepy tone. From then on it’s all downhill, “She’s so cute, down to earth,” (sure, if you say so) to “I want to take her home and met my mom and marry her,” the approach seems bizarre at best. Seriously who approaches women you are meeting for the first time like that?
Then, of course there’s the totally fake, “Your face mesmerises me. I’ve been in awe since the first day I saw you.” Puke-worthy stuff indeed. News flash: Women aren’t falling for that.
The video becomes even more hilarious when women are asked the same question in the video. They end up revealing the true side of being ‘approached’ by an Indian man. Most women in India are likely to agree with them. If you’ve ever walked on a road in India as a woman, it’s likely that you faced some of these comments.
From ‘Bhai bahut sahi hai,’ (She’s quite hot bhai) to ‘Chamak Chalo’ to whistling to commenting on women’s clothes, makeup, the list is long, endless and one that can keep growing. As one of the girls rightly puts, Indian men behave like they have never seen women before.
