Kafila.org, a popular blog that often posts about politics and media in the Indian state with a view that is often different from what one sees in a mainstream media, remains inaccessible for users today.
When users type in Kafila.org, they are greeted with this message: “This blog has been archived or suspended for a violation of our Terms of Service. For more information and to contact us please read this support document.”
However, It seems according to a recent tweet from Kafila that blog was shutdown because of a technical issue with the hosting site — Wordpress.
Earlier in the day, well-known academic and feminist Nivedita Menon who is a prominent blogger on the site, told Firstpost they were trying to figure out why the site was not accessible.
“I had managed to log in the afternoon, around 1 pm. After 3 pm, we found that we could not log in. We’re still trying to figure out why. We don’t want to see it as a conspiracy but we have no clue why it’s not accessible,” she said, adding that they had written to Wordpress and were still awaiting a response.
But it was made clear that under no circumstances will Kafila be blocked for long. A tweet from Kafila’s handle reassured its readers that if Wordpress does not restore the blog, they will move to a self-hosted site.
