More than half the women in India are anaemic, says study

More than half the women in India are anaemic, according to a study conducted by SRL Diagnostics, a pathological lab. [caption id=“attachment_2157715” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]Over half the women in India are anaemic, says a study. Reuters Over half the women in India are anaemic, says a study. Reuters[/caption] Around 59 percent women were found to be anaemic and severely lacking in haemoglobin levels in blood, according to the study, reported   The Times of India. The report added that this number was higher in the eastern region, where 72.12 percent of women suffered from anaemia. In the western region, around 45 percent women were anaemic. Another PTI report said that a recent survey conducted by a private insurer  shows that as Indian women continue to endeavour to do the best in their life and profession, they tend to neglect their health. According to the survey, only 39 percent of women were covered by any health insurance. Among those who were not covered, 53 percent had never thought about it, the survey mentioned. “Today’s woman needs to give her health its due importance,” said the survey. The online survey was conducted by a private general insurer, and saw it reviewing responses from 1,009 women. It revealed that out of 79 percent respondents, 16 percent did not go for any tests while 63 percent went for health check-ups only if unwell. It pointed out that 71 percent of them succumbed to an illness at least once or twice a year. The pattern showed that women were prone to and increasingly succumbing to chronic ailments like arthritis, anaemia, metabolic disorders and cancer as compared to men. (With inputs from PTI)
