Google’s Android has just come up with a YouTube video that is clearly intended to break the Internet.
As we all know, the hive mind of the Internet can’t resist a good animal video. And as far as animal videos go, this one has been knocked out the park. Featuring unlikely animal best friends, it’s just dripping in what the web calls ‘squeee’. The video had gathered about 5 million plus views since it was published four days ago, so its clearly working.
In the video we see a cat opening a door for a dog, a dolphin swimming with a dog, a horse patiently sitting down as baby goats prance all over him and a tiger nuzzling with a bear.
The ad is a plug for Google’s mobile platform Android, and looks to celebrate how it can be enjoyed across a range of mobile devices. Some of the biggest mobile companies, ranging from Samsung to HTC all use Android to power their smartphone devices. Given that the platform can be adapted by companies to make it look different from device to device, the ad seeks to show that although the platform is the ‘same’ it also celebrates diversity.
The Android ad is also being seen as a dig at its biggest rival Apple, which offers a much more uniform ‘walled’ smartphone experience. However as pointed out in this Time magazine article, “Apple just sold a record number of iPhones in the final quarter of 2014, and one estimate by Kantar Worldpanel says that iOS overtook Android as the leading mobile OS in the US last quarter for the first time since 2012.”
Oh well. The video is still kind of awesome. Check it out:
