Divine food: This Chennai temple serves burgers, brownies and salad as prasad

Imagine, munching on burgers, sandwiches, brownies and a whole lot of fast food. No no, not in any other cafe/restaurant, at a temple instead. That too as prasad! Surprised? Mind blown? So are we.

Yes, move over ladoo, puliyogare (tamarind rice) and chakkara pongal, it is now time to receive some burgers and brownies as prasad.

The Jaya Durga Peetham temple in Padappai, Chennai has started this 'out of the box' offering idea, reported Times Of India.

Not only that, it was reported that the temple serves salads too! If you are wondering about the service of this new age prasad, that too is modern. The 'pret-a-prasadam' can be collected from a vending machine next to the automated kitchen.

The fast food being served in the temple is authorised by the Food Safety and Authority of India with manufactured and expiry date labels.

While many were wondering what the motive behind this unique prasad offering to devotees, K Sri Sridhar, the authority of the temple, told India Times that the idea was to show that anything that is nutritious and prepared in a clean kitchen with a clean mind can be served to God and not only traditional dishes. Apparently, the offering is a hit among devotees, especially the elders.

If you thought that was it and this couldn't get any better, get ready, you might just get a cake as prasadam on your birthday. Yes, the temple has a database of details about the devotees and make sure they deliver cake prasadams on birthdays.

So if you are heading down south, you know where to go for your next 'divine' experience.

Now, we are waiting to see what will this quirky temple introduce next!
