There is nothing new about pubs and restaurants turning away customers, sometimes for valid reasons, sometimes for downright  offensive reasons , and on rare occasions, with some strange excuses. In India too, we have heard of people being turned away for wearing slippers and not wearing pants , but those were according to the rules of the venue. However the reason for a US-based Indian being banned from entering a Delhi club takes the cake.

Sumit Pant was refused entry at Hauz Khas Village pub called ‘Lights Camera Action’ because he “sweats a lot”, according to a report on IBNLive . The report cited Pant’s review of the club on restaurant app Zomato where he mentioned his ordeal in detail.

Pant, on his first visit to Delhi, visited ‘Lights Camera Action’ on the recommendation of his friends and visited it on three separate occasions. After being turned away due to stag rules the first time, he was accompanied by his female friends the next time and had one of the ‘best experiences at any dance floor across India,’ he writes_._

However, on the third day he was informed that he was banned from the club and on asking the bouncer and manager why, he was reportedly told, “Sir, you sweat a lot” while the bouncer added that he looked “like a drug addict high on weed”.

If this wasn’t bad enough, when his friend visited the place the next day and enquired about the incident, the manager supposedly replied that he looked like a guy from Delhi-6 and he was considered dangerous. Delhi 6 is a veiled reference to the Chandni Chowk area (covered by the pincode 110006), which is one the city’s most densely populated areas.

In the end, Pant states that his experience at Lights, Camera, Action made him resolve never to come to India and Delhi again.
