In situations like these, road-side assistance comes in handy. You get this service from your car manufacturer or your motor insurer. There are even stand alone companies like Cross Roads India Assistance which offer this service, notes a report in the_Economics Times_ today.
To avail of this service, you have to buy the road assistance product or a motor policy which covers road assistance. The amount you need to pay will vary from company to company, as well as the type and age of the car, and the level of service you need. It could cost anywhere between Rs 999 to as much as Rs 5,000 depending upon various parameters.

In fact, there are packages which offer assistance even beyond your city of residence. However, keep in mind that getting this product for older cars might be an issue.
Once you avail the services of a roadside assistance company, if your car breaks down your help is just a phone call away. Within half an hour, they would reach your location.
Most services would be free of cost, but if the car needs a fuel refill, you will have to bear the charges. Some companies even offer taxi assistance and hotel accommodation.
This service will definitely be welcome, particularly in the monsoon when car breakdowns are more common due to water logging.
