Saradha Group chairman and managing director Sudipta Sen and two others were today remanded to police custody by a Kolkata court. Saradha director Debjani Mukherjee and company official Arvind Chauhan were also sent to police custody for an equal number of days.
The trio was arrested from a resort at Sonamarg in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday where they were in hiding.
The police was on a hot pursuit of the Saradha head after a series of firms owned by the group closed down putting thousands of employees and investors in jeopardy.
Sen was produced at Bidhannagar court in Salt Lake along with the other two. The three were flown into Kolkata from New Delhi on Wednesday.
Thousands of investors affected by this chit fund scam including Congress workers gave a tough time to the police as they tried to break the security line to enter the court premises.
In a 6 April tell-all letter to the CBI that came to public domain on Wednesday, the Saradha chief had named many politicians from Trinamool Congress and the Congress for wrongfully exerting pressure on him to commit these dubious financial transactions.
