With the Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar resigned on Tuesday amid cracks in the ruling coalition of BJP and JJP, speculation emerged that senior party leader Anil Vij, party MPs Nayab Saini and Sanjay Bhatia may replace him as CM of the state.
Who is Nayab Singh Saini?
Nayab Singh Saini, a Member of Parliament from Kurukshetra and hailing from the OBC community, was appointed as the state president of Haryana BJP in October of the preceding year.
Saini’s journey within the BJP commenced in 1996, when he initially served within the organisational framework of the Haryana BJP. He worked alongside the state general secretary until the year 2000. Over time, he steadily progressed through the party ranks, assuming the role of district general secretary of the BJP Youth Wing in Ambala in 2002. Following this, he was appointed as the district president in Ambala in 2005.
Will Khattar be back?
Some BJP leaders say Manohar Lal Khattar will return as CM. Haryana BJP MLA Krishan Lal Middha told ANI: “I think when the oath ceremony takes place today, Manohar Lal Khattar will take oath as CM again. I don’t want to comment on why this alliance (with JJP) broke. This is the decision of the party high command. Observers are coming and if they ask us, our support is with Manohar Lal Khattar and he will take oath as CM for the third time and then later after the assembly elections, he will take oath for the fourth time,” he said.
Another BJP leader Kanwar Pal Gujjar said: " CM sahab hi CM sahab rahenge" when asked who will take over the top post.
Or will it be a new chief minister?
