On the eve of India's 69th Independence Day, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and his sons Amaan Ali Khan and Ayaan Ali Khan have come up with a fitting tribute to the historic day.
In a video presented by Taj Mahal Tea, the sarod maestro performs an instrumental rendition of 'Vande Mataram' accompanied by his sons, in a soulful and classical tribute to those brave freedom fighters, who laid down their lives with 'Vande Mataram' in their hearts and hopes of freedom in their dreams.
'Vande Mataram', a poem from Bankim Chandra Chatterjee's 1882 novel Anandamath, served as a hymn to the motherland throughout the freedom struggle. Independent India gave the first two verses of the poem the status of 'National Song' of the Republic of India.
Ustad Amjad Ali Khan's rendition, apart from being a musical masterpiece, is bound to give you goosebumps and leave you with thoughts of a time when freedom wasn't free and of the people who paid the price with their lives for it.
