In a case of snobbery combined with disregard for support staff, a foreign national slapped a security guard in New Delhi deployed as part of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s security detail on 10 July and because it was caught on camera has gone viral.
The woman, whose identity remains unknown, wanted to go inside a book release event at the WWF auditorium, attended by the former Prime Minister, and insisted she had registered beforehand. But since the former PM had arrived earlier than scheduled, the entry of all the visitors was restricted before time due to security concerns, reports the Indian Express.
The woman who was waiting outside started abusing the security guard for stopping her, calling him a 'stupid man'. When the guard didn't budge after a length of time, she slapped him.
Only after the guard had been slapped, did a man step up in his deference, raising his voice and telling the woman she had no right to do such a thing.
Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Deepak Mishra said a complaint has been received and police are trying to ascertain the woman’s identity, reports the Indian Express.
The entire event was caught of camera by PTI photographer, Vijay Verma, who was also stopped by security personnel.
"He was part of Delhi Police's security detail for the former PM. It was not clear from where she was, though to me she seemed Turkish. She threatened to slap the policeman and then did it also. Sadly although it happened in front of other policemen, they did nothing," Verma said in an interview with the Huffington Post.
