Twitter was abuzz with reactions after the quantum of sentence was announced in the 16 December Delhi gangrape case. The verdict in the case was highly anticipated, though not very surprising, given that they were found guilty of all charges brought against them.
The guilty were given maximum punishment for all the sections they were charged under and when the news reached the protesters outside court they broke into applause.
On Twitter, the reactions were no less jubilant. From staid comments of relief that 'justice had been served' to cries of 'thank god', here are some Twitter reactions to the verdict:
Many thoughtful friends oppose the death penalty. I understand their logic, but admit I prayed for a death sentence for the Delhi rapists

While welcoming the Delhi gangrape judgement, also remember that unless the average Indian's mindset towards women changes, little else will — Milind Deora (@milinddeora) September 13, 2013
I welcome the Delhi Gangrape Judgement. Such a heinous crime deserves to be dealt severely. For real change to happen, mindsets must change. — Anurag Thakur (@ianuragthakur) September 13, 2013
Hanging to gang-rape accused will work as a deterrent to such heinous crime.Thousands of rape cases pending in Fast Track courts for yrs.
