TDP’s Chandrababu Naidu and Janasena’s Pawan Kalyan on Tuesday staked claim to form the government in Andhra Pradesh. Naidu will take oath as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on June 12.
Naidu was elected to become the next chief minister of Andhra Pradesh by the newly elected MLAs of the Telegu Desam Party, meanwhile, Kalyan was elected as the floor leader of the state assembly.
According to media reports, Kalyan has sought the deputy chief minister post in the Andhra cabinet. He will also seek five cabinet positions for his party in the assembly, according to India Today.
NDA won a landslide victory in the Andhra Pradesh assembly elections by winning 164 out of 175 seats with TDP alone contributing 135 of that share. Meanwhile, Janasena won 21 seats and BJP bagged eight.
‘Amaravati will be AP’s capital’
While the state looks forward to meeting its new chief minister, the government is also expected to announce the new capital of Andhra Pradesh.
Putting an end to the mystery, Naidu on Tuesday said, “Amaravati will be the capital of our state. We will aim to develop the entire state, not just a few places,” after unanimously getting elected as the chief minister-designate.
He added that the new government will focus on an all-round development of the state while also aiming at making Visakhapatnam the new economic hub of Andhra Pradesh.
