It was not immediately known what area of questioning the police took, but according to this Times of India report, Tewari was witness to a bitter spat between the couple on board a flight.

Tewari was a witness to the events on board the flight and police sources said he had sought to calm things down. Bur sources close to the minister said he did not intervene at any stage. At the airport the spat apparently continued and Sunanda was seen rushing to the washroom in tears. Parts of the argument have apparently been captured in CCTV footage outside the airport washroom, the TOI report says.

The Special Investigation Team probing the case has questioned at least 15 people, including her husband Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and her son Shiv Menon. Tharoor's staff members and close friends were also among those quizzed by the Delhi Police.

Former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh and senior journalist Nalini Singh, too, have been questioned by police.

Sunanda was found dead in her suite at a five star hotel in south Delhi on the night of 17 January , 2014, a day after she was involved in a spat with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar on Twitter over the latter's alleged affair with her husband Shashi Tharoor.

Police had on 1 January filed a murder case and formed an SIT to probe the case. Her viscera samples have been sent to an FBI lab to determine the kind of poison that caused Sunanda's death. An AIIMS report had said that the poison cannot be detected in Indian labs.
