Speaking at the 70th Indian Army Day celebrations at the Cariappa ground in Delhi, Army chief General Bipin Rawat on Tuesday said the force would not hesitate to take strong action against terror activities and asserted that enemies along the Line of Control (LoC) were being given a "befitting reply".
"Our forces are giving a befitting reply to our enemies along the LoC. They are suffering heavy losses. I am warning our enemy (across the LoC) that we will not hesitate in carrying out strong action against any inimical action," he said
"The country along India's western border is providing support to terror groups and the Indian Army is dealing with them effectively," Rawat added, in a stern reference to Pakistan.
"We are also ensuring moral dominance along the border in Jammu and Kashmir. Terrorists are being trained and given arms by our neighbouring country, which is being termed state-sponsored terrorism globally," he said.
Rawat also said that new guidelines are being followed to maintain peace and tranquillity along the border in the eastern sector. "We will keep reviewing the situation along the eastern border. Our soldiers will not allow any compromise in guarding the border in that sector," he said, referring to the border with China.
He also spoke about major restructuring and modernisation of the army. The army chief presented gallantry and other awards to personnel at the event.
Rawat later spoke about intelligence-based operations and "people-friendly" operations in the North East that have managed to limit terrorism in the region.
He further announced the launch of a mobile application that will be linked to the army personnel's Aadhaar numbers. "Jawans can share their grievances through the application.
Rawat shared his concerns about the misuse of social media and said that it is being used "against the army by enemy countries". He also added that the force should be "careful in its use which he said is being used for radicalisation."
Referring to criticism of the Army's pyramidical structure, the Army chief said, "For us, the VIP is the jawan who faces the enemy along the LoC." He also spoke about coordination with the Navy and the Air Force.
"The security challenge facing the country will become more complex in the coming years. We will have to keep enhancing our combat prowess so that we can defeat our adversaries. I assure that we will keep the trust reposed on us by the people of the country," the Army chief said.
