Punjab, Haryana engulfed under fog, minimum temps stay normal

Chandigarh: Most parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh were today engulfed under a thick blanket of fog throwing normal life out of gear even as the minimum temperatures in the region settled at above normal.

A dense cover of fog in parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh continued to play havoc with normal life disrupting air, rail and road traffic in the region, officials said.

While trains continued to ran hours behind schedule due to poor visibility, several flights were also cancelled, officials said, adding that motorists had to move at a slow pace on roads in the wake of low visibility.

However, the minimum temperatures in the region hovered between one to five degrees Celsius above normal, the MeT
office said here.

In the plains of Punjab and Haryana, Narnual was the coldest place with a low of 4.5 degrees Celsius.

While Bhiwani settled at a low of five degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature at Hisar was 6.4 degrees Celsius. Among other places, Karnal had a low of 7.5 degrees Celsius followed by 7.6 degrees Celsius at Patiala, two notches above normal, 7.8 degrees Celsius at Ludhiana, one notch above normal.

The minimum temperature at Amritsar was eight degrees Celsius, five notches above normal, whereas Ambala settled at
a low of 8.3 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal. Chandigarh had a low of 8.6 degrees Celsius, which was
three notches above normal. The MeT forecast possibility of rains or thundershowers in parts of region in view of western disturbances with rise in minimum temperatures during the next 24 hours.
