PM Modi meets those injured in Delhi Red Fort blast, vows to bring ‘those responsible to justice’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday met people injured in Delhi’s Red Fort blast.

In a post on X, Modi shared photographs and said that “those behind the conspiracy will be brought to justice”.

At least 12 people were killed and 20 injured when a car on Monday evening exploded at a traffic signal near Red Fort Metro Station.

Initially, the Delhi Police registered a case under terrorism-related sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Later, the Centre handed the case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The investigators are understood to have linked the Red Fort blast to a ‘white collar’ terrorist module that the authorities have busted in an interstate operation stretching from Jammu and Kashmir to Haryana to Lucknow. At least seven accused have been arrested in the case, around 2,900 kilograms of explosives have been recovered, and weapons have been recovered.

The drive of the car that exploded, Umar, is understood to be one of the members of the module who escaped when his associates were being nabbed.

However, the government has not yet formally commented on the case or confirmed the toll.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police previously said it busted the inter-state white collar module after beginning an investigation into posters at different locations in Bunpora, Nowgam, and Srinagar in J&K that threatened and intimidated police and security forces.

As part of the investigation, CCTV footage led them to three overground workers being arrested and that’s how the authorities got on the trail of the module.

These three overground workers —with a history of stone-pelting— led the police to a cleric in Shopian, Maulvi Irfan Ahmad, who then led them to Faridabad in Haryana and Saharanpur and Lucknow in UP where more people were arrested and explosives were found.

The police arrested Muzammil Ganaie from Pulwama in Faridabad, Adeel Ahmad Rather from Qazigund in Saharanpur, and Shaheen Sayeed —believed to be Muzammil’s girlfriend— in Lucknow.
