Phailin forces President to return to end Durga Puja celebration early

Kirnahar (WB): President Pranab Mukherjee today cut short his visit to his home village in Mirati in West Bengal's Birbhum district in view of Cyclone Phailin which is expected to strike the neighbouring state of Odisha.

The President will leave at 5.00 pm for Panagarh in Burdwan district by car from Kirnahar near Mirati, which is 200 km from Kolkata, official sources said.

From Panagarh he will leave for New Delhi by air. The President had arrived at his ancestral village Durga puja.

This was the second time he had attended Durga puja at the Mukherjee House at Mirati after being sworn in as President.

He had arrived here on 11 October and had attended a cultural programme at Visva Bharati University and visited the Kirnahar High School where he had studied.
