Pakistan terror boat: Coast Guard releases new video, claims it blew itself up

The Defence Ministry on Friday has finally released a video of the Pakistan boat that was intercepted off the Gujarat coast on 31 December, 2014 that purports to show that the boat blew itself up.

The Coast Guard, according to CNN-IBN, has said, "The boat was loaded with explosives and blew itself up."

Times Now reported, that the newly released video, taken from patrol vessel ICGS Rajratan, showed that after shots were fired at it, the entire boat went up in flames. Had the fire been because of the gun shots, it would have engulfed only a part of the boat, the report claimed.

This comes in the backdrop of the controversy created by Coast Guard DIG BK Loshali, who had claimed that the boat was sunk by the Indian forces.

Earlier today he tendered an apology to the Defence Ministry but it was rejected.

A video put out by The Indian Express showed Loshali saying, "Let me tell you. I hope you remember 31st December night...We blew off that Pakistan...We have blown them off...I was there at Gandhinagar and I told at night, blow the boat off. We don't want to serve them biryani... "

Even as the Defence Ministry denied his claims, with Minister Manohar Parrikar indicating disciplinary action would be taken against Loshali, the DIG soon backtracked on his statement saying at a press conference he had been misquoted.

Acting close on the heels of Parrikar's statement, the Coast Guard had issued a show cause notice to Loshali, Chief of Staff (North West Region), asking him for his explanation on his claim Wednesday in Surat that he had ordered blowing up of the boat off the Porbandar coast on New Year Eve.

Loshali's version contradicted the claims by the Defence Minister, the Ministry and the Coast Guard made immediately after the incident when they had maintained that when the boat was chased by Coast Guard ships four men on board had set it ablaze.
