Before the session was convened, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had appealed to the opposition to support the crack down on Black money. He also hoped that constructive debates and timely decisions will be made in the winter session, while adding that the government was ready to discuss any issue. The Lok Sabha was adjourned after condoling the death of sitting MP from Cooch Behar Renuka Sinha and five former MPs. PTI

A heated session in Rajya Sabha was observed with the opposition parties rallying against the BJP on the demonetisation issue. CPM leader Sitaram Yechury said that Modi was "living in a different world while stating that demonetisation will not achieve any of Modi's stated goals. He demanded that demonetised currency be allowed for use till 31 December. PTI

Congress leader Anand Sharma also cornered the government on the issue stating that the common was harassed by this move. Referring to Janardhan Reddy's daughter's wedding, Sharma said that Rs 500 Crore were spent on a wedding and nobody batted an eyelid, on the other hand cash-strapped commoners had to cancel weddings because of currency ban. BSP President Mayawati lashed out the unpreparedness of the government before introducing the move, alleging there was total economic anarchy in the nation. She said if the government would have been prepared, Modi wouldn't have had  to stage emotional dramas and compell his old mother to stand in the queue. PTI

TMC MP Derek O'Brien demanded that Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien announce the identity of those who filed notice for discussion in the House. TMC has opposed the demonetisation move tooth and nail and party's national chief Mamata Banerjee also took out a march to the Rashtrapati Bhawan. PTI
