Terrorists barged into the home of a Special Police Officer in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district and shot him dead on Thursday, police said.

According to a police officer, a group of militants entered the house of Mushtaq Ahmed Sheikh at Kastoo in Bijbehara area of Anantnag in the evening and opened fire at him and his wife Fareeda, according to ANI

While Sheikh succumbed to his injuries, while on his way to the hospital, Fareeda is said to be in a critical condition. She is undergoing treatment at the sub-district hospital in Bijbehara area of Anantnag district, Greater Kashmir reported. Further details on the story are awaited.

In a separate incident in the state's Kulgam district, militants opened fire upon a civilian man who works as a teacher at Chancer in Kulgam district, police said. Sayar Wani was hit by a bullet in the leg, he said, adding the injured was admitted to a local hospital for treatment, ANI said.

Moreover, another group of militants opened fire on an army patrol in Shopian district of the state, prompting security forces to launch a cordon-and-search operation.

The ultras fired upon a patrolling party of the army at Ahgam in Shopian district this evening, a police official said.  He said the soldiers retaliated, triggering a brief exchange of fire. The security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to track down the militants, he said.
