In an astonishing incidence of negligence, construction workers buried alive a man after he accidentally slipped into a pothole at an under-construction road in Madhya Pradesh’s Katni district. According to a
report by The Times of India
, workers filled the pothole with molten bituminous material and ran a dumper over it, with the man trapped underneath. [caption id=“attachment_2440738” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]

The man who died after being trapped in the pothole was reportedly identified as Latori Barman. The TOI report quotes the district collector of Katni, where the incident took place, as saying that the man’s kin will be given Rs 50,000 as compensation. The driver of the dumper and a labourer, who filled the pothole without noting the man trapped inside, have been arrested, according to ANI. CNN-IBN quoted the Madhya Pradesh PWD minister Sartaj Singh as saying that the man was in an inebriated state and was not visible during the night time. The news portal OneIndia
has reported that the body has been exhumed and sent for a post-mortem examination. Only days earlier, a 25-year-old women died and her husband suffered injuries after they fell on the road while trying to avoid a pothole, the Indian Express
