The Russian Ambassador to India, Denis Alipov, has said that India’s deployment of the S-400 missile system and the BrahMos missiles, which New Delhi co-manufactured with Moscow, was “exemplary” during the military conflict with Pakistan earlier this month.
“From what we know, India has clearly stated the goals and undertook actions after having identified the targets and the terrorists it promised to do. As far as we know, during the operation, the S-400 system was used and the BrahMos missiles were engaged. Judging by the reports available, the performance of these weapons was exemplary,” Alipov told IANS.
He added that talks between India and Russia to procure more S-400 air defence systems are “ongoing” as both countries move to solidify the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.
How did India use BrahMos, S-400 systems?
Following India’s Operation Sindoor on May 7, which targeted terrorist camps in Pakistan, New Delhi emphasised that the strikes were limited and non-escalatory.
However, Pakistan responded with a military offensive three days later. The Indian armed forces successfully repelled the attack, and during the conflict, the S-400 air defence system was credited with intercepting and downing Pakistani drones and missiles.
India and Russia to work on more deals
Meanwhile, India and Russia, who have been engaged in strengthening their defence ties, have been working out more deals to procure more defence systems.
India and Russia share a longstanding and extensive defence partnership, marked by numerous joint initiatives.
These include the supply of the S-400 air defense system, licensed production of T-90 tanks and Su-30 MKI fighter jets, delivery of MiG-29 and Kamov helicopters, transfer of the INS Vikramaditya (formerly Admiral Gorshkov), collaborative production of AK-203 rifles in India, and the development of BrahMos missiles.

More ShortsAccording to a report by the Economic Times, a new unit of the advanced version of BrahMos is likely to be built in Uttar Pradesh. Russia has proposed extensive technical support for the joint production of an upgraded version of the BrahMos missile in India. Initial discussions between the two nations on this collaboration are already underway.
