BJP is eyeing a consecutive third term and to ensure that, it is replacing old faces with new ones and is also continuing to retain some of the old names to contest for the party in the Lok Sabha elections 2024.
The national party has already announced the names of 267 candidates it will be fielding in the upcoming general elections. The second list, released on Wednesday evening, had names of 72 candidates which saw major names being dropped and replaced by the new ones.
In its second list, BJP named candidates from 10 states including Karnataka, Gujarat and Maharashtra.

In Delhi, Harsh Malhotra has been fielded from the East Delhi Lok Sabha seat. He has replaced former cricketer and sitting MP Gautam Gambhir.
From the North-West Delhi constituency reserved for the Scheduled Caste, the party has named Yogendra Chandolia. He will replace Hans Raj Hans.
Uttarakhand
From the Haridwar seat, the party has fielded ex-chief minister of Uttarakhand, Trivendra Singh Rawat, dropping two-term MP and former Union minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank.
The BJP fielded its chief spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member Anil Baluni from Garhwal, instead of incumbent Tirath Singh Rawat, a former Uttarakhand chief minister.
Himachal Pradesh
The Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur will again contest from the Hamirpur constituency.
Former State President BJPSuresh Kumar Kashyap has been fielded from the Shimla seat.
Haryana
Manohar Lal Khattar, who resigned from the Chief Minister’s post in Haryana earlier this week, has been fielded by the BJP from Karnal seat. He has replaced sitting MP Sanjay Bhatia.
In Sirsa, the party has dropped its sitting MP Sunita Duggal, and has fielded Ashok Tanwar who recently joined the BJP after quitting the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Maharashtra
From Mumbai North, BJP has dropped Gopal Chinayya Shetty to field Union minister Piyush Goyal. This will be Goyal’s electoral debut.
The party has also named Smita Wagh from Jalgaon, dropping MP Unmesh Bhaiyyasaheb Patil.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has been re-nominated from Nagpur.
The BJP named Anup Dhorte as its candidate from Maharashtra’s Akola Lok Sabha seat, instead of sitting MP Sanjay Shamrao Dhotre. For the Beed seat, the party named Pankaja Munde as its candidate.
The BJP dropped its sitting MP Manoj Kishorebhai Kotak from Mumbai North East to field Mihir Kotecha.
Madhya Pradesh
The BJP gave a ticket to Savitri Thakur from the Dhar seat, instead of three-term MP Chhatar Singh Darbar.
The party named Bharti Pardhi as its candidate from Balaghat seat, replacing incumbent MP Dal Singh Bisen.
Karnataka
The party named Karnataka’s former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai as its candidate from Haveri, dropping MP Shivkumar Chanabasappa Udasi.
Whereas, ex-Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa’s son BY Raghavendra has been fielded from Shivamogga.
For the Dakshina Kannada seat, BJP has named Capt Brijesh Chowta instead of Nalin Kumar Kateel who held the seat for the last three consecutive terms.
The party has dropped its Mysore MP Pratap Simha to field Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, of the erstwhile royal family of Mysore.
It named S Balaraj as its candidate for the Chamarajanagar Lok Sabha seat, instead of Srinivasa Prasad.
Telangana
The ruling dropped its sitting MP Soyam Babu Rao to field Godam Nagesh to field on an SC seat of Adilabad.
Gujarat
The BJP replaced five sitting MPs with new faces in Gujarat, Bhikhaji Dudhaji Thakore from Sabarkantha, replacing its two-term MP Dipsinh Magansinh Rathod.
Nimuben Bambhania, has been fielded from Bhavnagar seat replacing two-term MP Bhartiben Dhirubhai Shiyal.
The party named Mukeshbhai Chandrakant Dalal as its candidate for Surat, dropping its three-term MP and Union minister Darshana Vikram Jardosh from the seat.
The BJP fielded Jashubhai Bhilubhai Rathwa from the Chhota Udaipur Lok Sabha seat in Gujarat, instead of its sitting MP Gitaben Vajesingbhai Rathva.
Tripura
The BJP named Maharani Kriti Singh Debbarma as its candidate from Tripura East seat, instead of incumbent Rebati Tripura.
