Expressing hope to see an end to the 'nightmare' they are going through, former media executive Peter Mukherjea wrote a letter to his wife and co-accused in Sheena Bora murder case, Indrani Mukerjea, on her birthday in January, media reports said.
Peter, in the one-page letter dated 3 January, reported Zee News, compared himself and his wife (another prime accused in the murder case) to Romeo and Juliet.
According to Mid-Day, which got access to the letter through sources, Peter wrote, "Mumu, my dearest. Today is a special day in your life and mine too therefore. Your birthday is a day we have always spent together since we met and this is the first year we're so close and yet so far."
Peter wrote that he would pray that Indrani could prove her innocence, "get clear of this nightmare in good time", said a report by The Times of India.
He further wrote, according to The Asian Age, "God is great and will see an end to this, and like Romeo & Juliet we will hopefully see each other soon — in court or at home one day."
Peter signed off the letter with a hug and a kiss.
It was just a day after the letter, reported NDTV, that Peter's lawyers filed his first bail application, stating that only Indrani was responsible for her daughter Sheena's death, and she had played Peter for a fool.
The letter comes after Peter, in his second bail application to the court, alleged that his wife was ‘highly ambitious and willing to sacrifice and give up her children to achieve her ambitions,” according to Deccan Chronicle.
Peter was arrested on 19 November, 2015. He is lodged at the Arthur Road jail in Mumbai.
Other co-accused, Indrani's former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her driver Shyamvar Rai, are in the same jail, while Indrani is in the Byculla women's jail.
The trio allegedly strangled Bora (24), Indrani's daughter from an earlier relationship, in a car and then her body burnt and dumped in a forest in Raigad in April 2012.
The crime came to light last August.
