Kashmir unrest: Telephone lines snapped in Baramulla, Bandipora and Kupwara

Srinagar: Three north Kashmir districts of Baramulla, Bandipora and Kupwara on Saturday had all communication links cut off from rest of the Valley following widespread violent protests that have left at least three people dead and many others injured. AP[/caption] All kinds of telephone lines — landline as well as mobiles — were snapped in the three districts following death of a youth in security forces firing during clashes in Kupwara district. “The decision to snap telephone services was taken to prevent rumour mongering as many areas in north Kashmir have witnessed surge in mob attacks on security installations over the past two days,” a police official said. While mobile telephony is suspended across Kashmir for the past eight days, the broadband internet services have also been downed in these three districts on Saturday, he said. Cable TV services have also been suspended in the three districts. While 39 people have died in violent clashes across Kashmir Valley following killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani last week, three of these deaths took place in Kupwara district. Violent protests have also been witnessed in Baramulla and Bandipora districts where several persons have been injured. All mobile services, except BSNL, have been suspended across the Valley while limited landline services were functioning in south Kashmir.
