Madhya Pradesh once again has been ranked number one by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) for the maximum number of rape cases.

In 2014, the state recorded 5,085 rape cases. Half of the women who were raped were minors, reported NDTV. Rajasthan ranked second with 3,770 cases, closely followed by Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra with 3,468 and 3,465, respectively.

The picture for Delhi also looked grim as the national capital recorded 2,102 cases of rape. The state with the lowest number of rape cases was Nagaland (32 recorded cases).

The total number of recorded rape cases in India stood at 37,681.

The numbers come from the annual report put out by the NCRB on crime statistics in the country. The full report for year 2014 can be read here.
