Kanpur: A 45-year-old woman was arrested for masquerading as the sister of a man killed in Indore-Patna derailment incident and trying to claim compensation, police said on Wednesday.
DSP Pavitra Mohan Tripathi said a woman claiming to be Preeti, a resident of Patna, on Tuesday approached the authorities at Mati postmortem house and identified a body as that of her brother Rahul.
The postmortem of the body was carried out and preparations were being made to hand it over when some doctors became suspicious as she kept asking when she would be receiving the compensation, he said.
The medical staff informed the police who questioned the woman. She kept on giving different addresses to them and was also not able to provide her identity card.
Meanwhile, one Dina Vishwakarma from Chandauli district reached the postmortem house and identified the body as that of his son Rishu (30), he added.
The deceased used to work as a cleaner on contract in trains and was onboard the ill-fated Indore-Patna Express on Sunday. Dina, who reached the hospital after receiving news about the accident, identified Rishu's body and also showed the police his ID card, the police official said.
The woman then identified herself as Aaliya Parveen (45), a resident of Varanasi's Godowlia. She told the police that she hatched this plan after coming to know that the kin of the deceased were being given large compensation.
Police suspect the involvement of some more people as Aaliya had shown authorities fake identity papers of the deceased.
An FIR has been registered against her at Akbarpur Police Station and she is being questioned. Her call records are also being probed, the DSP said.
DNA samples of the deceased, Aaliya and Dina have been taken and Rishu's body has been handed to his father, Tripathi said.
