A man was arrested in the Rewari district of Haryana after he allegedly tried to sell three of his four daughters for Rs. 50, 000 each to a man, who could "force them into prostitution."
Ramesh Kumar, along with three of his associates, Sewa Ram, Ajit Singh and Ajay Kumar struck a deal with some people to sell off his daughters. Ramesh lives in Rewari with his four daughters and a mentally-challenged wife, as per a report by The Indian Express.
A Times of India report says that Ramesh's plans failed after the eldest daughter learned of it. The eldest daughter, who is married, rescued the three girls along with the help of a relative and informed Kusum Yadav, a woman lawyer about the incident.
Yadav says, "The girls — aged 10, 12 and 15 — revealed that many persons had been visiting their house for the last six months, who misbehaved with them and tried to outrage their modesty. But their father never objected to them and even intimidated the girls not to disclose anything to anyone."
The report mentions the three others accused as Sewa Ram Sharma, his son Jeet and Ajay Yadav.
Police say that Ramesh, a truck driver, was in debt and might have come up with the plan as a result. The four accused have been arrested after a case was registered against them and the police are further probing into the allegations.
