The injured, six or seven of them seriously, have been shifted to nearby hospitals including Latur Civil Hospital. The explosion occurred at a bus station, a CNN-IBN report said.

The Maharashtra Road Transport Corporation officials are saying that the explosion happened just behind the driver's seat of the bus.

The nature of the explosion is not known yet. There are speculations that it might be due to a malfunction in the engine or a pack of crackers that might have bursted.

However, the state government is also not taking any chance and a Maharashtra Police Bomb Disposal Squad has been rushed to the spot. An Anti-Terrorist Squad of the Maharashtra Police has also been dispatched to the scene from Aurangabad.

The Union home ministry has sought a report from the Maharashtra Police. A National Investigation Team is on the way to the spot from Mumbai.

More details are awaited.
