New Delhi: Senior Left Front leader Sitaram Yechury today termed the death of SFI leader Sudipto Gupta as a "cold blooded murder" under police custody and demanded a judicial probe into the matter.
"What has happened to Sudipto is a cold blooded murder under police custody, the postmortem report confirms it. Now the state (West Bengal) government says that it's an accident. If they are so sure let there be a judicial inquiry. The fact that they are not ready for a judicial inquiry itself makes them culpable of the crime. The government itself is guilty," said Yechury.
The CPI(M) leader was speaking at a protest organised by SFI at Banga Bhawan here. Around 100 students along with placards raised slogans and demanded a judicial inquiry into Sudipta's death.
Yechury said they will continue their protest against the state government untill it accepts their demand of a probe outside the state administration.
When asked whether they will accept a CBI probe, Yechury said, "Let them (state government) come with a proposal."
Sudipto, a 22-year-old MA student of Rabindra Bharati University, had died in Kolkata while being taken to jail following a law violation programme by SFI on Tuesday.
